What to automate first in your marketing

Start with the repetitive handoffs between your forms, CRM and inbox, not with the fanciest AI idea.

Most teams start automation with the most exciting idea on the list. The better move is the most boring one: the task someone repeats every day, by hand, in the same order.

Look for handoffs, not tasks

Work gets lost where one tool ends and another begins. A form is submitted, someone copies it into the CRM, someone else sends a reply. Each handoff is a place for delay and mistakes.

A simple filter

  • It happens often, at least weekly.
  • The steps are the same every time.
  • A mistake is annoying, not catastrophic.
  • You can say what "done" looks like in one sentence.

If a process passes all four, it is a good first candidate. Lead capture to CRM and instant first reply almost always qualify.

Ship small, then extend

Automate one path end to end, watch it for a week, then add the next. A small workflow that runs reliably beats a large one nobody trusts.
